Who will win the 2020 presidential election?

Many will say that it is too early to predict who will win the 2020 presidential election. But, we will do our best to predict who will win the next presidential election in the US…

At the moment, there are eleven people running for president in 2020, eight Democrats and three Republicans.

There are currently currently two major debates over who will win the two major primaries, both the Democratic primaries and the Republican primaries. However, most are fairly certain who will win the latter!

Democratic primaries

Michael Bloomberg

Michael Bloomberg is one of the more controversial 2020 candidates. First of all, he was a Republican for many years, which has led many people to wonder why he is running as a Democrat.

Second of all, he is really rich. Which has drawn hippocrisy from political commentators, saying that:

The Democrats are choosing to fight one New York billionaire, with an even richer New York billionaire!

Thirdly, he has been in trouble with the media and Democrats, for his controversial support over stopping bank regulation, stop-and-frisk police tactics and the #MeToo movement.

Fourthly, he is a major detractor of a wealth tax, saying that it will likely found to be unconstitutional. However, he has said that billionaires need to pay more.

However, he is very appealing to more central leaning Democrats. This is due to his progressive, yet not too progressive policies and his more ‘rational’ approach to taxation.

Elizabeth Warren

Elizabeth Warren is certainly one of the more well known 2020 candidates. She has divided the media, and set the Democratic party alight.

One of her most famous policies would be the infamous wealth tax, which would see the IRS heavily tax the top 1% of families. This, naturally has drawn much criticism.

She is riding the current socialist wave in the Democratic Party, by calling for harsher anti-trust laws to be put in place. This is from the same perspective as her famed wealth tax.

Warren too, wants to fix the education and healthcare systems in America. She wants to introduce universal Medicare for all, and invest more in schools!

She is also plagued by her comments about her ancestry, where she claimed to be part Native American. When, it turned out to be wrong, she was nicknamed “Pocahontas” by President Trump!

Bernie Sanders

Bernie Sanders is often thought to be too old to serve as president, as he is currently 78. This is due to the fact that being president ages you four years for every one year in office, which would make him look 98 when he left his first term!

Bernie supports the Green New Deal, and campaigns on it for his presidential campaign. Essentially it boils down to becoming carbon neutral, and creating new green energy jobs as soon as possible (2050).

Bernie is a staunch advocate of medicare for all, which would entail an NHS-style of healthcare funded by the federal government. (This would be done through a wealth tax similar to Elizabeth Warren’s!)

Bernie is also banking one another fact that Jeremy Corbyn relied on in the UK’s General Election- free high speed internet for all, done through nationalizing telecoms companies like AT&T.

Pete Buttigieg

Pete Buttigieg if elected, would become the first, openly gay US president in American history! He has also served in the US Navy reserves as an intelligence analyst.

Pete is vying for the presidency based off several key policies, such as equal justice for all, regardless of sexual orientation, race, religion, gender, veteran status and more!

Pete is also looking to win the 2020 presidential election by promising to take on climate change. He wants to reverse Trump’s policies on climate change and re-enter into the Paris Climate Accords.

Pete also wants to make America safer and healthier internally, including introducing anti-extremism measures and free medicare for all those who want it!

Pete is very vocal about his beliefs in his policies, more so than other candidates, which has both made him many friends and many enemies in the general public!

Tom Steyer

Many have pointed out that billionaire Tom Steyer has much in common with President Trump and Mike Bloomberg. Photo courtesy of Gage Skidmore via Flickr

Tom Steyer is much like Michael Bloomberg in many ways. He is a multibillionaire who has thrown everything at getting his hat into the political ring!

Tom Steyer has announced that if he is able to win the 2020 presidential election, he will lower taxes on the poorest in the US, and raise them on the highest earners, which is supposed to help alleviate the pressure off the lower classes!

Steyer also encourages the expansion of policies like Obamacare, but has said that full on Medicare for all, is virtually impossible to obtain in the US without bringing the country to ruin!

Steyer also wants to reform the prison system. He wants to eliminate private prisons, he wants to eliminate Mandatory Minimum Sentences Reform and he wants to end cash bail reform.

Many people have questioned whether he’d be a fit president, or if he’d even win the 2020 presidential election, as he has a history of investing in non-renewable energy companies!

Tulsi Gabbard

Tulsi Gabbard’s presidential campaign is the only one not to be headquartered on the mainland US- that is to say that it is headquartered in Hawaii, where Tulsi Gabbard is a congresswoman for.

Tulsi Gabbard wants to bring in universal medicare for all, as an attempt to help her win poor and middle class voters, which is a growing concern that many of them have for the future- a lack of good health.

Gabbard also wants to reform the criminal justice system. She believes tat too many people are arrested for minor crimes, and worse offenders are being missed.

Tulsi Gabbard also wants to bring the US back into line with the rest of the world, by establishing her own version of the Green New Deal and re-entering into the Paris Climate Accords.

There is some controversy surrounding Congresswoman Gabbard, as she is favored for the presidency by many Russian state-owned media outlets, including sites like RT.

Joe Biden

Joe Biden is one of the more favored to win the 2020 presidential election. And this is with good reason, he is the second most experienced one running- having served as Obama’s vice president.

Joe too wants to connect with the middle class. He wants to invest in better housing for them, he want to pay for better education and healthcare for them, much like Obamacare, but better and more widespread.

Joe wants to end all types of violence, gun violence, gang violence, violence against women and so on. This is meant to help create a more cohesive America.

Joe also wants to strengthen unions and worker’s organizations in order to get the workers of America better pay, working conditions and bargaining power against corporations that own them!

With that being said, there is some controversy regarding his son- Hunter Biden, who was instrumental in the unsuccessful impeachment of President Trump.

Amy Klobuchar

Amy Klobuchar is the US Senator for Minnesota. She is one of the older candidates in terms of when she announced her campaign, which was announced in February 2019!

Klobuchar wants to make promoting mental heath awareness a priority for her administration. She wants to make it so that those who are “suffering from mental health problems are able to find the help that they need!”

Klobuchar also wants to tackle climate change. She too wants to reverse the effects of climate change. She wants to stop pollution and she wants to bring the US back into the Paris Climate Accords.

Republican primaries

Most people have a good idea of who will win the primaries and get the Republican nomination. However, there are currently three men vying for the nomination.

Donald Trump

Donald Trump is the favorite to win the nomination, due to the fact that he is currently serving as president for the Republican party.

During his past four years in office, he has done much for the country, uch as:

  • 4 million jobs created since he took office
  • Record unemployment
  • Record new unemployment
  • Revitalized American industry
  • Enacted regulatory relief for community banks and credit unions
  • Encouraged and increased NATO and NATO allies’ spending
  • Confirmed more circuit court judges than any other new administration
  • Reached a breakthrough agreement with the E.U. to increase U.S. exports
  • And more!

However, he has also been mired in controversy surrounding :

  • His negative views of women
  • His negative views of African Americans
  • The Russia-Trump scandal
  • The Ukraine-Trump scandal
  • His subsequent impeachment (that failed)
  • “Stupid Watergate”
  • His repeated push of various conspiracy theories

There is also a good chance that he will win the 2020 presidential election, due to the fact that he’s the incumbent president, and 11 out of the last 13 have won!

(The two who didn’t get re-elected were JFK who died in office and Jimmy Carter who refused to run for re-election!)

Bill Weld

Not much was known about Bill Weld outside of the US until his announcement that he will run for president.

He comes from a long line of Americans who were instrumental in the founding of the US and the history of the US.

Bill Weld supports criminal justice reform, which would see the encouragement of bail reform, enhancing the protection of federal civil rights laws. He would also stop the War on Drugs.

Weld is also going after the IRS in an attempt to win the 2020 presidential election- he is looking to overhaul the tax system and cut taxes for everyone, the rich and poor alike!

Bill Weld also has a relatively robust plan to stem the opioid problem in the US. He wants to bring in reforms such as introducing an electronic checking system to stop people from getting addicted in the first place!

However, some people are skeptical that he will win the 2020 presidential election, as he has seemingly jumped party many times. He also ran as the vice presidential nominee for the Libertarian Party- a party that didn’t garner many votes!

Roque de la Fuente

Roque de la Fuente has run for president several times before. Photo courtesy of Marc Nozell via Flickr

Roque de la Fuente is the proverbial “perennial” candidate- he has no hope of winning. That may seem harsh, but it is, sadly, the truth. How? He has ran before, couldn’t get votes, so created his own political party!

Again, he received no votes in the actual election itself.

Roque has policies such as universal (or as near enough as possible) medicare for all. Naturally, this is a little bit dicey with Republicans, however does appeal to liberal conservatives!

Roque also wants to reconfigure the immigration system. He wants to make it easier for illegal immigrants to come to the US (and become legal immigrants), he also wants to foster a friendship with them, and encourage more to come over!

Roque also wants to reverse much of the climate change legislation put in place by President Trump, including reversing the withdrawal from the Paris climate accords.

Many people doubt he would stand a chance against Trump, let alone having a chance to win the 2020 presidential election!

Who will win the 2020 presidential election?

I believe that incumbent President Trump will win the 2020 presidential election. I believe that he will go on to create more jobs in the US, even if he doesn’t necessarily go about it in the most statesmanlike of ways.

I believe that President Trump will win the 2020 presidential election due to the fact that 11 out of the last 13 presidents have gained re-election (and 11 out of the last 11 who have ran for re-election mind you!)

Whilst many in the US may not like Trump for whatever reasons, where founded or unfounded, he is undeniably charismatic.

Due to his charisma, he has been able to get a very loyal follower base, many in the US do believe that he has saved the US from the terrible presidency of Hillary Clinton.

However, many people have pointed out that there is a trend of who wins the political race. And the trend does not bowed well for President Trump.

According to this trend, Trump will not win the 2020 presidential election, rather, his Democrat rival will win it, and win it by a landslide as well.

I personally believe, that whilst Michael Bloomberg would make a great US president, I doubt that he will make it to being the Democratic nominee- he is simply the embodiment of everything Democrats hate.

Personally, I believe that Joe Biden will win the Democratic nomination, in order to go head-to-head with Trump, however, he will lose to Trump who will win the 2020 presidential election.

Sadly, I believe that Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are just too radical for the nomination. After all, the Democrats have already been in trouble for being perhaps too left wing!

Who do you think will win the 2020 presidential election? Will it be Trump or will the trend prove to be right again? Tell me in the comments!
